Microsoft Edge Browser, Bring it in your control.

Microsoft Edge is a fast, secure and modern web browser that comes with Windows 10 and is also available for other platforms. It offers many features and settings to help you browse the web safely and privately. Here are some tips to make the most of Microsoft Edge’s security. I prefer Microsoft Edge especially when you have work emails attached to office 365.

  1. Use Microsoft Defender SmartScreen: This feature protects you from phishing, malware, and other malicious websites. It also warns you before downloading potentially unsafe files. You can turn it on or off in Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Services > Microsoft Defender SmartScreen.
  2. Manage your passwords: Microsoft Edge can save and autofill your passwords for different websites. You can also sync them across your devices using your Microsoft account. To manage your passwords, go to Settings > Profiles > Passwords. You can also use a password manager extension for more options. This option suits for those who have work email account. Your password, bookmarks and settings are saved and can be opened in any other computer.
  3. Use InPrivate browsing: When you browse in InPrivate mode, Microsoft Edge does not save your browsing history, cookies, or other data. This can help you protect your privacy when using a shared or public device. To start an InPrivate session, click on the menu button (three dots) and select New InPrivate window.
  4. Clear your browsing data: You can delete your browsing history, cookies, cache, and other data from Microsoft Edge at any time. This can help you free up space and prevent others from accessing your online activity. To clear your browsing data, go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data.
  5. Control your tracking prevention: Microsoft Edge blocks third-party trackers that try to collect your browsing data and show you personalized ads. You can choose how strict you want this feature to be: Basic, Balanced, or Strict. You can also customize the list of sites that are allowed or blocked from tracking you. To adjust your tracking prevention, go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Tracking prevention.
  6. Use HTTPS Only mode: This feature forces Microsoft Edge to use a secure connection (HTTPS) whenever possible when visiting websites. This can prevent hackers from intercepting or modifying your data in transit. You can enable or disable HTTPS Only mode in Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Security > Always use secure connections (HTTPS Only mode).
  7. Manage your extensions: Extensions are small programs that add functionality to Microsoft Edge. They can enhance your browsing experience, but they can also pose security risks if they are malicious or outdated. You should only install extensions from trusted sources and keep them updated. To manage your extensions, go to Settings > Extensions.
  8. Use Family Safety features: If you have children who use Microsoft Edge, you can set up parental controls to monitor and limit their online activity. You can create child accounts, set screen time limits, block inappropriate websites, and more. To access Family Safety features, go to Settings > Family safety.
  9. Update Microsoft Edge regularly: Microsoft releases updates for Microsoft Edge that fix bugs, improve performance, and add new features and security enhancements. You should always keep your browser updated to the latest version to enjoy the best browsing experience and stay protected from online threats. To check for updates, go to Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
  10. Use a VPN service: A VPN (virtual private network) service encrypts your internet traffic and routes it through a remote server in another location. This can help you hide your IP address, access geo-restricted content, and bypass censorship and firewalls. You can use a VPN extension for Microsoft Edge or a standalone VPN app for your device.
